'Viña Gravonia Crianza’ 2017
Viuria, Rioja, Spain
An aromatic, oxidative and age-worthy Spanish white from an institution-level winery loved the world over. This iconic family-owned winery is one of Rioja’s oldest establishments, founded in 1877 by Rafael López de Heredia. Their 300 hectares are located in the heart of the Rioja Alta region, 100 of them sitting on the right bank of the Ebro river, on soils of alluvial clay and limestone, and producing region grapes. Sourced from the 24 hectare ‘Vina Zaconia’ vineyard, the hand-harvested viura, or macabeo, grapes come from 30-40 year-old vines, pressed and aged for four years in 150 year-old oak vats. Pale yellow with a punch, honeycomb, flower gully, mirabelle plum, citrus speckles, white truffle, salt, a silky texture & a warm nuttiness. Enjoy with grilled turbot and impressing your fanciest relative.
