'Alberto’
Albariño, Rías Baixas, Spain
A far-reaching, rich white that grabs your heart & refuses to let go. Alberto Nanclares and Silvia Prieto work five hectares of vines in Galicia, north-west Spain. From the misty coast, they produce classically angled, age-worthy albariños that reflect the honest, unique characteristics of the grape. The ‘Alberto’ comes from ten different decomposed-granite rich plots, with vines ranging from 15 to 95 years. Nine months aging on lees with three months of weekly batonnage add texture (imagine stirring up a settled iced coffee before taking your final sip!). Nervy citric acidity, rich, mouth-filling body, salted rim & fleshy white tropical fruit encompassed by minerality. Pair with the brothy Galecian dish Caldo Gallego, featuring turnips, turnip greens, white beans, ham & sausage.
