Rack & Ruin’
Ribolla Giallo & Nero d’Avola, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia
A brand new cuvée from Australian natural wine darlings Dane Johns and Hannah Miller’s project in Gippsland, Victoria. Momento Mori was born out of a simple desire to make wines that first and foremost have respect for the living. Everything they craft is done with care towards the land and a natural approach in the cellar that responsibly stewards some very small, unexpected, and relatively old vineyards of Italian grape varieties. ‘Rack & Ruin’ is another one of these ‘unlikely friends’ that proves the whole is sometimes much greater than its parts. Northern Italian grape Ribolla Giallo is first produced as an orange wine (think of such classic producers as Radikon and Gravner here), then blended with 30% Nero d’Avola, bringing the dark fruit and spicy warmth of the Mediterranean to the complex and textured mouthfeel of the orange component.
