‘Romi Orange’
Sauvignon Blanc, Central Valley, Chile
In 1990, Echeverria was converted from a bulk winery into one of the most exciting boutique wine projects in the country, focusing on sustainably made wines for me, you & just about everyone. This slightly-weird orange wine does not, as the label cheekily reminds us, contain any oranges – could’ve fooled us! In fact, it’s a zesty-fresh skin-contact Sauvignon Blanc that drinks nice and easy, a perfect Intro 2 Natural Wine for newbies & a reliably delicious banger for the rest of us. Organically grown from pre-phylloxera vines, the grapes undergo a 45-day maceration, a year in neutral French oak and are bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur. Amber like the afternoon sun, light-bodied with a juicy texture and notes of tangerine curd, green apple, orange blossom, manuka honey, rosehip oil & the handful of wildflowers that your crush liberated from someone’s garden just for you so you’re not to blame.
