'Giosuè'
Riesling & Cabernet Franc, Toronto, Ontario
A zero-zero white-red blend pieced together from Ontario fruit. Driven, knowledgable and spirited winemaker Drea Scotland’s project, Drinks Farm, is all about grounding curiosity, newfound sensory experiences & utilizing local ingredients that extend from grape to raw honey. Drea’s 2023 vintage, as well as the next few vintages, will be made entirely from purchased grapes (aka négoce), until her freshly-planted, one year old hybrid vineyard starts producing. She calls ‘Giosuè’ a rosato, made of 50/50 round, citric riesling from Georgian Bay and green, rocky, BERRIED cab franc (perfectly ripened) grown by Eric Willms in Niagara (have you tried the Willms rosé?). Together they were direct pressed – a suggestion from Drea’s pal and namesake for this cuvée, Giosuè – and aged on lees for seven months to instil liberal texture & layered aromatics. Drea shared her read of it as, “a south of France rosé from a really cold place”, strawberries on parade, with tops, jammed n’ jarred, sliced, squashed & green, plus a salty, mineral and granita-esque playfulness. Enjoy while playing fetch with your favourite pooch.
